How to Apply for a Bed in a Shared Room

Applying for a bed at Wellness Housing takes a phone call and a tour. Here is every step, what we ask for, what we do not, and how soon you could move in.

The hardest part of applying is usually the first phone call. Not because the call is difficult, but because of everything people imagine is waiting on the other side of it.

Here is the whole process, start to finish.

Step 1 You Call Wellness Housing

That is the entire first step. Call, or apply online in about two minutes. There is no deposit. You call and tell us what you are looking for. We talk through which house fits, since East 54th Street and West 42nd Street are for men and East 69th Street is for women, and what it costs, and you get a straight answer on that call rather than a maybe.

Step 2 You Come And See The House

We will get you in for a tour as soon as we can. Walk the house, see the room you would actually be in, see the kitchen and the common areas, meet whoever is around.

Ask us anything on that tour. What the other residents are like. How quiet it gets at night. What happens if you work early shifts. There is no question that is going to be held against you, and you should not be deciding where to live off photographs.

Step 3 We Talk About Payment Plainly

We will ask how you plan to pay. If that is General Relief through DPSS, the START Program or another form of third party assistance, that is completely normal here. If you are paying out of pocket, also normal.

What we will not ask you for:

  • A credit check
  • A security deposit
  • A lease

Step 4 You Agree To The House Rules

Short list, and we go through it with you so there are no surprises later: no alcohol or substances, no pets, one adult per bed, headphones for music and TV.

These are not there to make life harder. They are the reason the houses stay calm, and every person living there has agreed to the same ones.

Step 5 You Move Into Wellness Housing

Bring your things. Utilities are already on and already included. Somebody will show you where everything is and introduce you around.

Then you get on with your life. That is genuinely the point of all of this.

Same process, and you can run all of it. Call us, we will talk the fit through on that first call, and we can coordinate the payment side with you directly.

To be clear about what we offer: we rent beds in shared rooms, not private rooms. Every resident has a roommate, and that is what keeps the cost as low as it is.

Ready to start? It is one phone call.

What a bed costs before you call is published on the page, and each of the three houses has its own photographs.

Greg Explains The Wellness Housing Intake

Greg tells Rocsii from The Source LA how intake works: a phone call, a tour of the house, a short application, then you move in.
